I've never met Samantha Ronson

I was recently asked by Radar Magazine to comment on the (alleged) relationship between Lindsay Lohan and Samantha Ronson, two women I don't know personally (though I have in fact met Lindsay Lohan, briefly and informally at my old job in Beverly Hills 4 years ago).

The journalist asked me what I thought about their (alleged) relationship, and I told her that I don't know if they are dating or not but if they are I hope they're happy. In the course of our conversation, we also talked about how lesbians are represented in the media and other general lesbian-ish stuff. I suppose I am a good resource for all things lez.

The article was published and in it I was quoted as saying that I had met the (alleged) couple. Let me reiterate, I DO NOT know them. That bit of misinformation isn't a big deal, but I have a HUGE problem with what followed. In the closing statement of the article, I was quoted (or should I say was MISQUOTED) as saying something like, Lindsay being gay would be good for Hollywood, "Just so long as Lindsay doesnt chop off her hair and get fat." This is a statement I did NOT and would NOT ever make. Since what I said was completely taken out of context I'm currently attempting to get a retraction from Radar. The quote that was attributed to me is offensive to me and insensitive to people with real weight issues (I myself have struggled with weight since childhood) and it plays into stereotypes about lesbians. All lesbians are different; long hair, short hair, tall, or short--it doesn't matter as long as we're all out, proud, and unified.

The only funny part about my misquoted interview is that the writer referred to me as "buxom." I would have preferred "sharp-witted" or "outrageously funny" but I guess a fancy word for "big-titted" will just have to do.

Is it any wonder that celebrities hate giving interviews, when they are continually misquoted or things are taken out of context just to sell more magazines?

I certainly feel that Radar owes you an apology and hope that you get the retraction that you are seeking (preferably not buried on the back pages somewhere).

It's becoming increasingly more difficult to determine the accuracy of a story that one reads given the lies and spin that the magazines use. Then there are the bloggers who blatantly make up stories or spin the information based on their like or dislike of a person (read: Perez Hilton as an example). Then we have magazines that photoshop pictures to such a point that the person no longer looks like their true self. And let's not forget the clever editing done in some interviews and shows that are done solely as a means of garnering more ratings. It's really getting to the point where you just don't know what to believe anymore when you read/watch/see something.

Perhaps if more people stood up for themselves when inaccuracies happen (kudo's Bridget) than we'd have less of it happening.

I have noticed a pattern among even the shortest of celeb interviews...that when one celeb is asked about another celeb who the 1st celeb doesn't even know...it is a "loaded" line of questioning.

And said celeb #1 is royally screwed if he or she says anything besides no comment.

snicker..."big titted" Dang rags...always messin' things up! I think a good option for interviews is to tape the interview yourself, that way you have AUDIO and/or VIDEO proof of how the interview went.

That's ridiculous. This is just shoddy journalism. What do they think this is--the stone age where they can get away with this sort of thing?

I'm sorry this happened to you and I hope you do get that retraction. Still, I am just appalled at how unprofessional on their part this whole thing sounds.

Sometimes I wish I were a lawyer so I could go after a--holes like this. Slander is against the law jerks! Unfortunatly most entertainment people ignore it or they would spend every day in court fighting it. And the writers of this garbage know that. Therefore they are willing to take the chance to make the cash. Think about how many times you see Brad and Angelina in the tabloids. They would never get out of court. It's just not worth it. That is the unfortunate part of the whole deal. You notice though those that have sued don't get bothered anymore either. Just one time usually will take care of it.
